Following the previous MoU signed between Allameh Tabataba'i University and University of Padua in 2017, a joint staff and student exchange agreement was signed between the two institutes in March 2020. Following the signature of a preliminary Memorandum of Understanding between Allameh Tabataba'i University and University of Padua in 2017, an international staff and student exchange agreement was signed and exchanged between the two institutes in March 2020.

Under the agreement, each year the two parties should exchange two faculty members for three weeks and two students for one semester to do educational and research activities in the other institute. The agreement was signed thanks to the efforts and negotiations made by Dr Abdoladeh Neysi, associate professor at ATU's Faculty of Statistics, Mathematics and Computer, and Dr Stefano De Marchi, faculty member at the Department of Mathematics, University of Padua.

With over fourty thousand students, University of Padua is one of the most prestigious universities in the world, having been one of Italy's top 4 universities and one of the best in Europe for many years. According to the 2020 QS Rankings, the university is ranked 234 in the world, while it is among the top 40 universities of the world in the areas of statistics and psychology.
