About the Regional Studies Department

 

Department of Regional Studies is currently offering educational and research services to students at Masters (MSc) level. The Department is, in fact, training specialised graduates in the area of regional studies, with a focus on the Central Asian and the Caucasus Region. Thanks to the high quality of education in the Department, its graduates enjoy a high employability rate.

To date, there are 3 faculty members teaching and researching in the Department. The faculty members are offering the latest advances in such areas as regional / area studies. There are two Masters Degree Programmes offered in this department, which are specified below.

 

Degree Programmes

There are two Masters programmes offered in the Department of Regional Studies: (1) Masters Degree Programme in Regional Studies (Central Asia and the Caucasus), and (2) the Dual Masters Degree Programme in Regional Studies (Eurasia). The programmes are briefly introduced below.

 

The Master's Degree Programme (MSc) in Regional Studies

  • Regional Studies (Central Asia and the Caucasus): The Master's degree programme in Regional Studies (Central Asia and the Caucasus) is held completely in English and all the applicants, both Iranian students who have taken the Iranian University Entrance Exam (Konkur) and the non-Iranian students, have to pass an oral exam or interview to prove their English proficiency before admissions. The programme takes three taught semesters and a fourth semester dedicated to completing, submitting, and defending a Masters thesis.

 

The Dual Master's Degree Programme (MSc) in Regional Studies

  • Regional Studies (Eurasia): The Dual Master's degree programme in Regional Studies (Eurasia) is a degree-based programme where students spend two semesters (the first and fourth semesters) in their own universities and the other two semesters will be spent in the Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU). In the end of this programme, students receive two degrees from the two universities, hence the title Dual degree programme. As an international programme, this programme is also held completely in English and all the applicants have to pass an oral exam or interview to prove their English proficiency before admissions. The programme takes three taught semesters and a fourth semester dedicated to completing, submitting, and defending a Masters thesis.
