On Wednesday 15 May 2019, Professor Arshi Saleem Hashmi delivered a speech in ATU's ECO College of Insurance.

Professor Arshi Saleem Hashmi, Director the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at National Defence University of Pakistan, delivered a speech on "Economic and Regional Relations of Pakistan" in ATU's ECO College.

In her speech, Dr Hashmi pointed to the change in Pakistan's foreign policy and illustrated Pakistan's avoidance to participate in the Saudi Arabian war against Yemen as an instance of this change and emphasized the various commonalities of Iran and Pakistan.

She then elaborated on the economic relations between Iran and Pakistan, and the Economic Cooperation Organisation's (ECO) failure to achieve its objectives, attributing it to the competitions among powerful member-states of the ECO. In response to a student asking about the relations between Gwadar and Chabahar ports, Hashmi quoted Omran Khan's speech in this respect, saying "Gwadar and Chabahar seaports could operate as sister ports."
