Closed Days & Public Holidays
An academic year in Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU) includes two terms (semesters). The First Term, or the Autumn Term, generally begins in the second week of September and last until the end of December. Second Term, or the Spring Term, generally starts in the beginning of February and ends in early June. As the First Term Exams usually start in early January and last for two weeks, no classes are held in the last two weeks of January and students have time to refresh.
Moreover, the Second Term in ATU includes a two-week holiday on the occasion of the Iranian New Year, known as The Nowruz (literally meaning the "new day"). The other main holiday in Iranian universities, including ATU, is the summer holiday, starting in mid-June and ending with the start of the First Term in the second week of September. The summer holiday usually lasts for 11 weeks.
Iranian universities are also closed on weekends, including Thursdays and Fridays. Below, the days ATU is planned to be closed during the year 2020 is listed.
Note: The following list of Closed Days and Public Holidays is tentative and open to change. Therefore, for the holidays might be more extensive in case of air pollutions, severe weather conditions, etc. Accordingly, all professors, students, and researchers planning to visit ATU are suggested to make arrangements with international@atu.ac.ir or their Iranian host in ATU before their trips.
Weekend Holidays
In Iran, Thursday and Friday are the weekends, and most public institutions, including all universities, are closed. In these dates, no administrative or educational services are offered.
Pubic Holidays
All the Bank Holidays marked in the Iranian calendar for the year 2020 are listed below. As for the weekends, no academic and administrative service is provided in the university during public holidays.

In September 2020, there are no public holidays. In this month, ATU should be closed on the weekends only.
October 2020
Religious holiday, the Arba'in or the anniversary of the 40th day of passing away of the Karbala Martyrs.

Religious holiday, anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hassan Askari.
November 2020
Religious holiday; anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad and Imam Sadiq.
December 2020
In December 2020, there are no public holidays. In this month, ATU should be closed on the weekends only.
